Who GEHA dental is for
GEHA, the Government Employees Health Association, offers health coverage used by federal employees, annuitants, and their families. Dental may be part of a GEHA health plan or a separate dental enrollment, including plans people choose during federal dental enrollment. The card will say which one you have. A medical card alone does not tell us the dental maximum.
Dentality Family Dentistry accepts GEHA dental benefits and files the claim. Connection Dental and other network names sometimes appear on GEHA materials. We bill from the ID in front of us. If two family members have different GEHA options, we verify each person separately.
Federal employees and retirees often have GEHA medical and a separate dental choice made during open season. We ask which dental option you enrolled in, because the brochure you picked is the plan we bill, not every GEHA product at once.

What we check on a GEHA dental benefit
We look at eligibility, the remaining annual maximum, the deductible, and the class of service. Preventive care is typically the most complete part of a federal or GEHA dental benefit. Basic and major care pay at the rates in your brochure, not at a single GEHA-wide rate. Orthodontics, implants, and missing-tooth rules are brochure-specific, so we read yours.
Federal plan years and enrollment changes can catch people mid-treatment. If you switched options in the last open season, tell us. The old plan's maximum does not move to the new plan, and a crown started under one option may not bill cleanly to the other.
A new enrollment does not inherit last year's maximum. If you changed options in the last open season, treatment started under the old option may not move to the new one. Tell us if you switched so we do not bill the wrong contract.

What to bring
Family members on the same GEHA enrollment can still have different remaining maximums if one person has already used care. We verify each person on the day they are seen, not from a spouse's earlier visit.

- The GEHA dental identification card
- The plan option name, if you know it from your brochure
- Subscriber information for family coverage
- The date you enrolled, if the policy is new this year
How a visit is billed
We submit the GEHA dental claim and respond if the payer requests films or notes. You receive the explanation of benefits. We compare it with the estimate we gave you and explain any difference.
If a service is excluded, we will tell you the office fee before we do it. Financing and the full carrier list are on the insurance and financing page.
GEHA explanations of benefits are worth keeping with your other federal plan mail. If a line is denied, we can resubmit with the film or the note they asked for without you having to become the go-between.
