Florida Blue Dental Benefits in Katy

Florida Blue is Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida. If your dental benefit travels with you to Texas, Dentality will verify it and file the claim. The sections below explain what to bring, how this office files or quotes the visit, and which details on the card change your estimate.

A Florida plan at a Katy office

Florida Blue is the Blue Cross Blue Shield company in Florida. Patients in Katy usually have it because an employer is based in Florida, they recently moved, or they are staying in Texas while the policy remains in a family member's name. The medical card and the dental benefit are often separate. BlueDental and other Florida Blue dental products are the ones a dental office can bill.

Dentality Family Dentistry accepts Florida Blue dental benefits when the plan allows care at this office. Out-of-area rules are the part we always check. Some groups use a national dental network and pay a Katy dentist the same way they would pay a Florida dentist. Others pay an out-of-network benefit, and a few limit routine care to Florida. We read your group instead of assuming.

Moving to Katy does not automatically cancel a Florida Blue dental benefit, and it also does not guarantee that routine care is paid here. The out-of-area rule is the first thing we check, before we reserve a cleaning appointment you might have to pay in full.

What we verify

We confirm the dental rider is active, whether routine care is covered outside Florida, the remaining annual maximum, and the deductible. Preventive, basic, and major categories work like other Blues dental plans, but the percentages belong to your contract. A cleaning that was paid in Tampa earlier this year still counts against a plan that allows two cleanings, even though the second visit is in Katy.

If the plan will not pay a Texas dentist for the visit you want, we tell you before you come in and talk about private-pay fees or the membership plan. We would rather have that conversation on the phone.

Florida Blue medical customer service cannot always see the dental rider. If the app shows a separate dental ID, that is the number we need. A medical-only screenshot usually is not enough to file a cleaning.

What to bring

Cleanings already paid in Florida this benefit year still count when you are seen in Texas. Tell us the month so we do not schedule a visit the plan will reject as too soon.

  • Any separate medical card, so we do not bill the wrong one
  • The subscriber's Florida address if the ID uses it
  • Dates of dental visits already paid by this plan this year

Claims from Texas

When the benefit is payable here, we file the claim to the payer on the card. You should not have to print a Florida claim form. If Florida Blue asks for X-rays, we send them. You receive the explanation of benefits in your Florida Blue account.

See the other plans we accept on the insurance and financing page.

If the plan pays an out-of-network benefit rather than an in-network one, the estimate will say that plainly. You can then decide whether to use the benefit or to look at the membership plan for preventive care.

Frequently Asked Questions

I just moved from Florida. Can I use Florida Blue in Katy?
Maybe. It depends on whether the dental benefit covers care outside Florida. Call with the member ID and we will check before you book.
Is Florida Blue the same as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas?
No. They are separate Blues companies. We bill the plan named on your card. If you have both, bring both cards.
Do you need my Florida address?
The subscriber ID is what we bill with. The address on the card helps if the payer uses it to match the contract, so a photo of the card is enough.

Call before your visit and we will estimate what your plan is likely to pay, so the visit does not come with a surprise bill.
