DPPO and DHMO are different Cigna products
Cigna's DPPO is a preferred-provider organization. You choose the dentist. The plan pays its highest level at dentists in the DPPO network and a lower level, or sometimes a scheduled amount, if you go outside it. A Cigna DHMO is a dental HMO: you are assigned an office, and another office generally cannot bill it.
Dentality Family Dentistry accepts Cigna DPPO. If your card says DHMO, Access, or a plan that lists a primary dental office, call before you book. We would rather tell you on the phone than discover it when the claim denies.
Say "DPPO" when you call, not just "Cigna." The dental HMO uses the same brand and a completely different rule: you are assigned an office. Confirming the product first saves a wasted trip.

What we look up on a Cigna DPPO
We check that the coverage is active, how much of the annual maximum is left, whether the deductible has been met, and the coinsurance for the service you need. Cigna groups, like other PPOs, usually pay more of a cleaning than of a crown. Missing-tooth clauses, implant riders, and orthodontic lifetime maximums are extra lines we read when they apply.
Frequency limits matter. A plan that pays two cleanings a year will not pay a third because you preferred a different month. If your last cleaning was recent, tell us the month so we do not schedule something Cigna will reject as too soon.
Cigna DPPO groups differ on whether a back-tooth filling is paid as a tooth-colored filling or downgraded to a metal filling. We check that line before we numb the tooth, because the difference is yours if the plan downgrades it.

What to bring
If your last cleaning was at another Cigna office, the date matters more than the city. Frequency limits follow the plan, not the dentist, so a cleaning last month will not be paid again this month.

- The Cigna dental card that shows DPPO
- The member ID and group number
- Subscriber information if you are on a family contract
- Dates of cleanings or major work already done this plan year
Claims
We file the Cigna DPPO claim electronically. If Cigna requests a narrative or an X-ray for a buildup, crown, or periodontal procedure, we send it from the chart. You still get Cigna's explanation of benefits, which is the official record of what they paid.
Any estimated patient portion is discussed first. Financing options, and the other carriers we accept, are on the insurance and financing page.
For a crown or a root canal we can send Cigna a pretreatment estimate. It is slower than a same-day cleaning, and we will tell you if your group usually answers quickly enough that waiting is worthwhile.
