A savings plan is not the same as insurance
Most Careington cards patients bring to a dental office are dental discount plans. You pay the dentist a reduced fee from a published schedule. There is typically no claim, no annual maximum, and no explanation of benefits the way a PPO sends one. That surprises people who were told they "have dental coverage" and expect a claim to be filed.
Dentality Family Dentistry accepts Careington. Before any treatment we confirm which Careington product is on the card. A discount plan is billed differently from a dental PPO that happens to use a Careington network. Mixing those up is how patients get the wrong quote, so we do not guess from the logo.
Because Careington is so often a savings plan, we quote a fee you pay at the desk rather than a claim you wait on. If your particular card is a network PPO instead, we switch to filing a claim and we say so before any work starts.

What you pay at the visit
On a discount plan, the fee we quote is the amount due to the office. There is no second bill from an insurer later, and there is also no insurer paying a share. The value of the plan is the reduced fee compared with the office's usual fee. We will show you that fee for the visit you are scheduling — a cleaning and exam, a filling, or a larger treatment plan — before you agree to it.
Discount plans generally do not have the waiting periods or yearly caps of insurance. They also do not pay for treatment you had at another office. If you thought Careington would reimburse you, call us with the member ID and we will read the card together.
A discount is not a percentage we invent at the front desk. It comes from the fee schedule tied to the series printed on your card. Two Careington cards can discount a crown differently, which is why we read the series name.

What to bring
If you joined Careington recently, bring the welcome email or the app screen that shows the membership is active. An expired card looks like a current one until we check the date.

- Your Careington membership card
- The plan or series name printed on the card
- A second dental insurance card if you have both a PPO and a discount plan
- The phone number on the back of the card if the plan name is hard to read
If you also have insurance
Some patients carry Careington alongside a dental PPO. We will not bill both for the same service. We look at which arrangement costs you less for the treatment you actually need and explain the choice. We do not drop one plan without telling you.
Financing is still available when a discounted fee is more than you want to pay at once. The full list of plans and financing partners is on the insurance and financing page.
When someone has both Careington and a dental PPO, we compare the discounted office fee with the estimated PPO patient share for the same visit. We recommend the lower one and we do not bill both.
